]]>I did, and it worked! Here's what happened...
During positional testing with a patient, I found apogeotropic nystagmus in the Roll Test -- left side more intense than the right. Because of the position I had the patient in from the Roll Test, I chose to move into the Log Roll. (I'm a creature of habit). The maneuver was tricky due to limited cervical ROM and an upper thigh urinary bag. He was also quite nauseated from the nystagmus.
He returned a week later, and I decided to try the Zuma maneuver. For those of you who haven't heard of the Zuma maneuver (yet), it was developed to address limitations associated with the Gufoni maneuver (nose up) for apogeotropic horizontal canal (HC) BPPV. These limitations include low resolution with one maneuver, transitioning from the anterior arm to the posterior arm (requiring the original Gufoni (nose down) maneuver, and the theory that it doesn’t address cupulolithiasis on the utricular side (Zuma et al., 2020). Due to the success of the Zuma, slight modifications were made to treat geotropic HC BPPV, which is referred to as the Modified Zuma.
I couldn't remember which side to lie the patient down on initially, so I used the step-by-step instructions in 360NeuroGO as a quick reference, and it worked on the 1st maneuver!
I was talking with a colleague who has also had good success with the Zuma maneuver, so we thought we would share both the Zuma and the Modified Zuma with you. Check out the free quick guide (link below) - it has written and video instructions.
Get your free quick guide here! >> Zuma Maneuver Quick Guide
Keep in mind, the explanation and demo videos have been slightly modified due to considerations with those that may have limited cervical ROM. Also, we kept the recommended 3-minute holds as described by Dr. Zuma although we suspect the person doesn’t need to be held in the positions this long.

]]>Our highest priority is creating opportunities to raise your market value.
Each time you invest in our opportunities, you increase your skills and raise the baseline of what you are worth - from novice to expert.
Stack up on skills. Position yourself as the leader in your practice. Be the go point person in your facility for colleagues and referring providers.
The Certificate of Competency in Vestibular Rehabilitation (CCVR) 2.0 Course is designed to build your understanding and know-how through practical application of the methodologies in vestibular rehabilitation – the same methodologies we use to assess and treat the vestibular population.
Provides you a convenient and flexible path to advanced training in vestibular rehabilitation through online coursework & live (or virtual) lab. Follow along with our guided lesson plan (more details below) or progress through the materials at your own pace. This course was created by healthcare professionals and we recognize that your time is extremely valuable so we’ve designed the curriculum to allow you to participate on your time, when you have time. Upon completion of the online coursework, you will have the opportunity to demonstrate required clinical skills in the live (or virtual) lab.
With this training, you are more consistently applying your working vocabulary and fundamental concepts into your practice. You begin to delve more deeply and confidently into your skillset. This is the level where your skills more closely match your experience and you’re ready to take an even deeper dive into cases that are best understood through a comprehensive understanding of vestibular-related anatomy and physiology, the advantages/disadvantages of vestibular-related diagnostics, and the uncertainties associated with more complex cases. The CCVR 2.0 Course content and features continue to evolve. We’ve been busy behind the scenes developing a new online learning platform, 360NeuroGO, to help you succeed through interactive modules, quiz and exam question banks, discussion boards, live chats, and so much more!
Stay current in vestibular medicine with our online Competency in Vestibular Rehabilitation Recertification Course! Refresh your memory, renew your skills, and stay up to date with key concepts and techniques in vestibular medicine.
The purpose of this recertification course is two-fold: 1) to provide participants with updated and novel evidence-based concepts in vestibular medicine and 2) to reflect on your professional growth from competency to proficiency. After completing your competency-based course(s) and putting your knowledge and skills into practice, it’s likely you can more clearly and quickly identify relevant and irrelevant information.
Having more experiences in vestibular-related patient care provides us with more confidence to utilize our working knowledge and apply it to solving new problems. We gain a deeper understanding of alternative options and our decision-making capabilities become less labored and intuitive. The recertification course reflects your ability to apply your knowledge base through class discussions, quizzes, and clinical applications in more complex ways.
Advance with our knowledge-to-action bootcamp to bridge the gap between evidence-based education and clinical decision-making skills in vestibular medicine. The Advanced Decision-Making in Vestibular Medicine: Algorithms & Heuristics Bootcamp is a novel approach for translating clinical vestibular knowledge to practice and applying it to complex clinical scenarios using precision-driven care plans.
You've successfully completed a vestibular rehabilitation certification course and now have a strong foundation and deep understanding of dizziness and balance disorders. You've demonstrated your commitment to your profession and are consistently applying your knowledge to real-life practice. More often than not, however, we are talking to our colleagues about complex clinical scenarios, not predictable ones. This bootcamp is designed to help problem-solve these multi-factorial and complex patient scenarios.
The bootcamp consists of two 90-minute classes per week followed by a one-day live (or virtual) lab in Austin, Texas. Over the course of 5 weeks, you’ll attend informative lectures, participate in a variety of team exercises, and work independently in the classroom and at home. The curriculum emphasizes a one-day, in-depth exploratory live (in-person or virtual) lab to practice the skills and abilities in vestibular medicine clinical decision-making. By the end of the course, you will leave with VestMed Clinical Practice Algorithms & Heuristics - a multidisciplinary best practices resource to assist you in vestibular medicine clinical decision-making.

If you like this freebie, you're going to LOVE the ‘Simplify Vestibular’ Kit! We have been amazed at the amount of interest we’ve received in this kit. There are so many clinicians using the kit in their practice and we’ve received some really great feedback!
One thing we really love about the kit is it includes an online hub with an ever growing collection of assessments, treatment guidelines, sample treatments, and a resource library.
Plus, the ‘Simplify Vestibular’ Kit is the only visual-vestibular-gait kit that is affordable, portable, and can be used across a variety of disciplines, settings, and patient/client populations.
